ESCOLA MUNICIPAL DE MÚSICA CHIQUINHA GONZAGA

Making way for training of new musical talents

This music school with roughly 500 pupils provides courses in percussion, double bass, guitar, keyboard, piano, saxophone, flute, trumpet, trombone, tuba, euphonium and clarinet, in addition to voice techniques and music theory. These courses are aimed at students as of 10 years of age. In order to create a musical sensitivity in the young ones, a course in children’s musical awareness is also provided for children aged from 5 to 10 years.

Escola Municipal de Música Chiquinha Gonzaga is subordinated to the Itaguaí local government’s Secretary of Education and Culture and besides these courses free of charge, it also prepares all the public school network’s bands, the Coral Infanto-Juvenil and the reputed BAMITA – Banda Municipal de Itaguaí, with its 110 members. In 2013, this well regarded school celebrated in great style its 15 years of existence and demonstrated that it will have many years of life to come.

Scheduling is required to visit the school or to attend rehearsals and performances.
