ARTESANATO DO SEU OSÉAS
Uniquely caiçara art
As a caiçara from Paraty who has lived in Angra dos Reis for 20 years, Oséas learned to carve small sculptures of canoes and fish on his own, from recycled wood and by using very simple tools such as knives, jigsaws and the alegre, a tool that he himself created to scrape the wood.
His one-of-a-kind creations differ from the small carved and colorful boats in very white and pliable wood, such as traditionally devised by other Paraty caiçara artisans. Oséas has a gift of employing in his creations harder woods such as broomsticks, which when recycled, can result in eight boats each.
He has already exhibited these items in the Casa de Cultura, and on weekends may be seen with them at Praça Zumbi dos Palmares in the Angra dos Reis town center, captivating the public with his art and natural friendliness.
