Paulo de Lira was born in Paraíba and has lived in Angra dos Reis since 1979, where he has been dedicated solely to the arts since he was 17. During his career, he has participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions, not only in Brazil but also in France, the Netherlands and United States, having been awarded important prizes. Paulo was also a teacher of design and publicity in Senac for five years, and has been awarded the title of Cidadão Angrense by his adopted town.

His art expresses his love for Angra dos Reis and for the region’s culture in bright colors. The artist’s creativity is always ablaze, which constantly leads him to explore new techniques, topics and materials. Several sculptures displayed in the town’s public areas are examples of the versatility by this talented visual artist, who considers himself self-taught and is a great admirer of French painter Henri Matisse.

As a disciplined artist, Paulo can be seen every day in his charming studio in front of the well-known Aquidabã yacht club, where he has a large mosaic mural on display. He loves receiving visitors – is always very welcoming and serves a freshly made coffee during the conversation or while modestly showing his beautiful creations.
