This entity occupies a beautiful old house and its mission is to give value to and encourage cultural and artistic expressions, in particular those found in Paraty, and to bring people together in a social and cultural coexistence. Casa da Cultura de Paraty completed 10 years of activities in 2014, and its quality programming of events has made great improvements, enabling it to captivate locals as well as to attract visitors to the town.

Having been managed by the NGO Associação Paraty Cultural since 2004, it has recorded numerous successful events, in particular largely relevant cultural attractions for the local community, such as the permanent encounters held since 2013. With the assistance of sponsors, the entity had its facilities refurbished, including painting of the façade and improvements to the 160-seat auditorium, exhibition rooms and circulating areas, as well as its visual programming. There is also a pleasant area for socializing events, named Café da Casa.

In addition to organizing simultaneous events throughout its rooms, a number of cultural activities have been created for visitors to these beautiful premises. Besides courses and workshops, the weekly schedule also includes music, theater, cinema and children’s recreation, held free of charge from Thursdays to Sundays. This begins with Quinta Justa, a musical performance by regional artists. On Fridays, the diversified events may start with a new book being launched or an exhibition, and end with everybody dancing the local ciranda choreography. Saturdays are reserved for children’s educational and recreational activities. The week is concluded with a cinema show at 7 pm on Sundays, followed by a discussion on what was shown. Keep an eye on the Casa da Cultura fan page, as the intense programming may provide an event not to be missed in the middle of the week.
