PARATY TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER

With just over one year located on a busy corner of Rua do Comércio, in a beautiful building that for many years housed the town hall, the tourist center is much sought after by visitors and even by residents, who are interested in details on the municipality’s programming.

The purpose here is to provide guidance to visitors in search of historical venues and cultural spots in Paraty and surroundings, to supply leaflets and explanations on the annual calendar of events, maps and other information material. With a focus on folk traditions and on the town’s material and immaterial heritage, this entity does not provide recommendations on guesthouses and hotels, restaurants or boat trips. The tourist center is open daily – including weekends and holidays – and the assistants at the information counter are bilingual (Portuguese and English). The center has the support of two electronic totems – one installed in the Convention Bureau and the other in TurisRio – where it is possible to browse freely and consult a number of topics.

The same location is the seat of Pinacoteca Marino Gouveia, which houses a permanent exhibition by acclaimed painters of great importance to the visual arts. Suffice it to say that some of these participated in the 1922 Semana de Arte Moderna. For obvious reasons these pictures cannot be photographed. The art gallery belongs to IHAP – Instituto Histórico e Artístico de Paraty and its collection is priceless. A major portion of its works of art are not on public display and are packaged and protected in another of the building’s facilities, in the gallery’s technical reserve.

This “combination” program is entirely free of charge and will leave you prepared to venture through the Historical Town Center and its surroundings, in search of the town’s numerous cultural attractions.
