Modern version of ciranda without foregoing tradition

Having adopted the mission of introducing ciranda to the younger generations and maintaining this rich tradition alive, this group, which was organized in 2005, re-arranged the ciranda practiced in Paraty and added electrical instruments without detracting from the original melodies and rhythm.

The first performance was at the Flip literary festival, and since then this musical group has been very successful with its electrified and contagious ciranda in shows and parties, gaining a legion of fans that dance in large circles holding hands and executing the traditional choreography.

The band currently consists of six members and has received full approval by residents, tourists and in particular ciranda musicians from the old school. In its official website, in addition to showing performances of the older musicians, Ciranda Elétrica exalts this tradition and honors the region’s senior ciranda players by disclosing their background, photos and songs.

The group released its first CD in late 2000, and has already staged performances in major cultural facilities in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Acknowledged by respectable institutions as a genuine Caiçara Jovem cultural expression movement, Ciranda Elétrica was recommended to compete for the Rio de Janeiro State Culture Award in 2014.

This modernized ciranda band performs in four or five important festivities in Paraty’s annual event calendar. Keep an eye on the town’s programming or on the band’s website and come and listen to the contemporary sound that recalls a traditional caiçara custom.
