Located in strategic spots in the region, the five CIT units are subordinated to the town hall and are of great help to tourists, visitors and residents. Manned by good natured and well trained staff members – who are also bilingual – it goes beyond informing timetables for boat tours and tips on what to see. Among the services provided, visitors may be informed on car and boat rentals, foreign exchange offices and boating activities. In addition to accessing a website to view lists of addresses and prices of accommodation, there are also folders in Portuguese, English and Spanish that contain maps stressing the town’s natural attractions and cultural heritage.

The Tourist Information Center is the responsibility of Fundação de Turismo de Angra dos Reis – TurisAngra, which runs other significant projects such as giving support to cultural events, the production of manuals and courses that stress the importance of tourism, placing buoys to protect bathers from marine traffic, tourist administration training courses, marketing plans that include strategies to enhance disclosure of the town and its surroundings and signaling projects, among other actions employed to leverage the region’s qualified tourist activity. The comprehensive Internet tourist portal (www.turisangra.com.br) is replete with information, photos and lists of numerous attractions in the region.

The largest among the CIT units, Estação Santa Luzia (hours from 7 am to 7 pm), is located at the Angra town center’s busiest quay, where every day a number of vessels sail to Ilha Grande and neighboring destinations. There are other CIT offices at Praia do Anil, the bus terminal, at Vila do Abraão and at Serra d’Água, and each of these has specific opening hours.
