Glauter Barros is an artist with two very interesting humorous angles: he is an expert storyteller and at the same time he personifies the clown Picolé, a character loved in the town.

Storytelling has been his vocation for 18 years. This started back in 1996 in the Tororomba troupe in which he was a member for three years. He subsequently launched his solo career and has demonstrated a very creative effort in which he employs as support material a small bench and an old suitcase – that belonged to his father – from which he pulls out sundry items such as books, musical instruments, puppets, and even a plastic banana, all of which he uses to illustrate his stories and to hold even more his spectators’ attention. His performances are always a success and may occur at any time, on approaching people in the street as well as in schools, senior citizen meeting spots, facilities for the homeless, penitentiaries and anywhere that he is called. This character has also participated in several meetings of storytellers in a number of Brazilian towns.

The artist has performed with his character Picolé the clown for 26 years and has won over a legion of fans. In his lively performances he revives, among other pranks, famous old children’s games such as zombie, hopscotch, skipping rope and others. On the stage he acts on his own but the production is supported by his sister and wife in the backstage area. The clown usually performs in squares, shopping malls and private events in clubs and birthday parties. Once every month on Sundays he performs at the Shopping Piratas in Angra dos Reis, to the joy of children and grown-ups, who are touched by his imaginary world and reminisce on their childhood.

At the moment, Glauter is also a public employee at Cultuar. He doubles as a cultural producer too, and has already recorded a CD with his stories and cooperated in publishing a book. One of his new projects for release shortly is the Piquenique dos Livros, an original idea that has all the hallmarks of success.
