INKE ATELIER

Art coupled with the pleasure of living in Paraty

Ricardo Inke is from Rio de Janeiro, he prefers water colors and has been a painter for 17 years. His wife Marília is from São Paulo, and has worked with acrylics on special paper made of banana plant fiber for 15 years.

Ricardo, who has water colors in collections in Brazil and overseas (France, Norway, Germany, the Caribbean, the USA and Japan), has held a number of exhibitions. In his unassuming position as an eternal apprentice, he always seeks to stay close to those more experienced, having the privilege of painting and learning a great deal – with the masters of water colors. His delicate works of art are living postcards that depict the poetry of a city, with its rows of houses, the daily lives of town dwellers, the sea and the tides.

He also participates in the Encontro Internacional de Aquarelistas organization, which gathers watercolorists in Paraty once a year, usually in August / September when well-known artists get together to hold workshops. On that occasion, participants capture all of the Historical Town Center’s urban charm with their agile and transparent brush strokes.

Marília has always been inspired by nature and has had her works acquired for collections throughout Brazil and other countries (France, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Finland and the USA), and exhibited in different spaces in Paraty. These works of art may be seen in the studio as well as through the Internet.

Both artists take turns at receiving visitors in the pleasant studio-shop, as they also dedicate some time as tourist guides; certainly a privilege for those who are received by the couple.

On getting acquainted with the town they were captivated, felt the likelihood of making a living with art and here they are, happy residents for over nine years. They opted for Paraty for being “…an open door to the world…” and on feeling the strong link the town has with art and culture that they had not found anywhere else in the country.
