It is impossible to pass by the corner building of Rua da Praia and Rua Dr. Samuel Costa, and not be attracted by the charming bookstore run by Paraty resident Norma. This is where the Livraria de Paraty main shop was set up in 2000, before opening a branch at Rua do Comércio, 100 in 2012, both extremely cozy and boasting a well diversified stock.

The two shops display literature in general (Brazilian and foreign), regional, domestic and overseas newspapers (such as for example a translation of Le Monde), magazines on different topics, children’s books, postcards, maps, guides, CDs and DVDs, postage stamps, books on art and photography, etc. And of course a special collection of publications on Paraty and Brazilian culture.

A coffee shop with several tables round off the service and the charm: an excellent espresso coffee, cheese bread, water and soft drinks. The Rua do Comércio branch also provides a special nook for children replete with books, in a welcoming and relaxing environment.

Affinities make both shops ideal venues for launching new books, a more frequent event during the Flip literary festival, with autograph evenings held by participating authors.

For inhabitants or visitors to Paraty, browsing is always a pleasant way of whiling away your time. Well worth a visit.
