Miguel Arthuro was born in Rio de Janeiro and has been a visitor to Mangaratiba since his childhood. He discovered his talent and vocation for painting very early, and studied at Escola de Artes Visuais do Parque Lage in Rio de Janeiro as well as in other visual arts courses.

Miguel applied a lot of practice and dedication in developing oil painting techniques, perfected his talent in the academic style and was inspired by cubism, the artistic movement with which he is more identified. His attractive creations may be viewed and acquired in his website as well as with art dealer Jô Oliveira, who leverages his activities in the world of art.

He has held three individual and several collective exhibitions during his artistic career, one of which in Portugal, and has received a number of awards. Miguel is a member of Academia Brasileira de Desenho e Artes Visuais and of Academia de Letras e Artes de Búzios. He is also a graphic designer and currently works in Fundação Mário Peixoto’s communications area.

He has in store an unprecedented project for 2014: The Modus Intelligendi exhibition, in which the theme of the paintings has to do with exotic musical instruments. He is an adept of QR Code technology – those square irregular mosaics that are accessed by approaching with a cell phone or tablet – enabling visitors to see a video and listen to the sound of the instrument depicted on the canvas.

Miguel has lived in Mangaratiba since 2006, and has a pleasant studio in the district of Morais with a beautiful view of the sea and the hills. It is open to visitors and simply requires scheduling, preferably from Mondays to Fridays after 5 pm, or in the daytime during weekends. These are the hours he dedicates to visitors, always very good natured and cheerful.
