QUEIJARIA BOM JARDIM

Country flavors directly from the farm

This small shop is over 20 years old and can be seen on the Rio-Santos highway with its typical country wares, close to the Mangaratiba entrance and a strategic stopping point for travelers to the region.

Karla de Abreu from the town of Valença, has run this home-made goods business for six years, and also brought from her home town goods such as crumbly peanut sweet, shortbreads and guava paste in tablets.

Most of the goods sold in the cheese shop are carefully prepared in Fazenda Bom Jardim. The cheese and butter are made from full-cream dairy farm milk and the home-made sweets are prepared in copper pans, according to tradition. There are over 15 kinds of fruit preserves: banana, guava, papaya, jackfruit, navel orange and caramelized milk, to name but a few. There also home-made jabuticaba, fig and cinnamon liqueurs. Other typical country fare such as free range chickens (frozen) and delicious free range eggs are part of the selection of goods that attract faithful customers. It is also possible to acquire honey, peppers and other typical Minas Gerais goods.

Karla and her team also work for visitors’ awareness, by spreading refuse bins and posters with good-humored messages, showing a special concern with the region that welcomed her so well.
