Samburá is a basket used to place recently caught fish. The name is appropriate for this restaurant specialized in extremely fresh seafood and high-quality fish.

The restaurant has been doing business for 25 years. It developed from a small bar that opened in the evenings and served appetizers only. When they started serving two typical seafood dishes – one with spaghetti and another with risotto – the owners really pleased their customers, and from then on business has been brisk, to the point of opening a second restaurant in the idyllic Hotel Meliá in Angra dos Reis. However, to the delight of their loyal customers and the group of artists who dine there after their performances, the first house continues very much in demand among the residential buildings in the district of Parque das Palmeiras.

Chef Fábio Ramos Pereira is the good natured head of the kitchen and takes pride in explaining how he learned to cook with his mother Diva, and to this day he remembers the two well known dishes on the menu that made both famous.

The menu boasts numerous marvelous dishes. The most popular entree is squid stuffed with farofa (toasted cassava meal). Another special entree is stuffed crab shells according to the chef’s special recipe: one hundred percent crab meat, home-made seasoning and an unbeatable cheese gratin topping. As for main courses, options vary and satisfy the most demanding palates. Heading the list of most ordered dishes is moqueca (fish stew). Another popular suggestion is steamed fish with shrimps and plantains, delicious, well served and a feast for the eyes! To crown it all, home-made desserts by Diva, such as passion fruit preserve with vanilla ice cream and chips of the fruit’s skin.

Quality control is a priority in the Samburá restaurant. And this motto attracts constant customers and wins over visitors, who always come back. This confirms its reputation of being one of the best venues to be served the region’s typical cooking.
