A perfect place to appreciate the sunset and the flight of a flock of herons, Toca da Garoupa is also famous for its typical fish and seafood cooking.

Facing the sea in Mangaratiba from its location at Ponta da Ribeira, the view that opens up from this spot is really stunning. It appears that the flocks of herons and seagulls that inhabit the surrounding areas also agree, and their movements are a spectacular sight in itself, fascinating visitors who take pictures incessantly.

Toca da Garoupa was founded 30 years ago by Arlindo Florentino as a family business. For eight years it has been under the management of Ricardo Florentino, who worked for 15 years with his uncle and inherited the restaurant on the latter’s decease.

The seafood casserole is among the most ordered dishes, in a tie with the famous grilled sole, both of which are delicious and served in abundant portions suitable for two persons, and with very accessible prices. During certain days and hours smaller individual meals are served, such as fish or chicken fillets together with simple side dishes such as beans, rice and potatoes, at more than modest prices.

The premises are a must when making reservations for parties and private events. An annex with a dance floor and lighting and sound equipment serves as a large hall for parties, in which every two weeks on Saturday evenings after the restaurant closes, the local DJ organizes bustling dance functions that attract a public of as many as 300 people.

Toca da Garoupa is certainly a venue that deserves a visit and that will leave good memories, providing its patrons with a good reason to return.
